FOUNDED BY LAURA CALLEEUW, LAURA CALLEEUW INTERIOR DESIGN IS KNOWN FOR WHAT SHE CALLS "COZY CATION": SPACES THAT FEEL LIKE A HOLIDAY DESTINATION, TAILORED TO THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THEM. WITH A STRONG FOCUS ON NATURAL MATERIALS, CRAFTSMANSHIP AND THE BALANCE BETWEEN AESTHETICS AND LIVEABILITY, EACH PROJECT IS A REFLECTION OF HER CLIENT'S PERSONALITY AND DAILY LIFE.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE STYLE OF PRINCEN?
My design style is best described as COZY CATION: interior design with vacation vibes. I aim to create interiors that feel like a warm, relaxed holiday destination, where comfort and experience are at the centre. Within that approach, what matters most to me is that a space feels calm, while also remaining personal and inviting.
WHERE DO YOU FIND MATERIAL INSPIRATION?
I rarely search for material inspiration in a deliberate way. It tends to emerge more organically. During visits to suppliers, at trade fairs, through magazines, or simply in nature, I constantly come across new textures, colours and combinations that inspire me. It is more a process of discovering and collecting than actively searching.
HOW DO YOU GUIDE CLIENTS IN MAKING THE RIGHT MATERIAL CHOICES?
When guiding clients, I rely heavily on feeling and intuition. I try to sense what truly matters to them and where their priorities lie. My preference always goes to natural materials, with their own pattern, character and qualities shaped by nature. At the same time, I take my clients' daily lives into account. Sometimes that means making adjustments, so that aesthetics and practical liveability remain in balance. The ultimate goal is always to create a harmonious whole in which both come together.
HOW DOES THE HUB FIT INTO THIS PROCESS?
The Hub plays a valuable role in that process. It brings together different materials in one clear and accessible experience, which makes the selection process much more efficient. Seeing materials curated in the atmosphere and style of our portfolio, all on one mood board, helps clients gain clarity more quickly. It reduces doubt and makes it easier to make thoughtful, well-informed decisions.
WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT FAVOURITE MATERIAL, AND WHY?
My favourite material at the moment is paint, particularly artisanal painting techniques. Although I really enjoy working with natural materials such as stone and wood, I find that the true experience within our projects only fully comes to life once the painting technique has been applied.
Painting stands out to me as the most intriguing craft-based "material" because the result is highly dependent on the human hand. Each application is unique and influenced by elements such as form, light, and its interaction with other materials. It has a depth and layered quality that is not immediately obvious, but reveals itself more and more the deeper you engage with it.
This variation, combined with its tactile and almost living character, is what makes painting techniques so fascinating to me. It is a material that invites continuous exploration and refinement, and has the ability to give each space a distinct and personal identity.
